Alford Named Educator of the Year by ASAM
Daniel P. Alford, MD, MPH, assistant dean of Continuing Medical Education at BUSM and director of the Clinical Addiction Research and Education Unit at Boston Medical Center, is the first recipient of the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s (ASAM) Educator of the Year Award.
Alford, an associate professor of medicine and director of the Safe and Competent Opioid Prescribing Education (SCOPE of Pain) program at BUSM, is recognized for his outstanding contributions to addiction medicine education. A well-known and knowledgeable expert in the field of addiction medicine, he serves as an ambassador for ASAM through presentations at education activities for the society and other medical organizations and associations.
Alford is immediate past president of the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse. He was recognized as a Champion of Change by the White House and recently received the national AMA “Award for Health Education”.
